Does MK 677 Lower Testosterone?

Written by Sarah Thompson - February 13, 2023

MK 677, also known as Ibutamoren or nutrobal, is an orally administered growth hormone secretagogue—a compound that stimulates the release of growth hormones—often used by bodybuilders and athletes to increase lean muscle mass, strengthen bones and joints and improve sleep quality. As with any type of supplement or medication, it’s important to understand how the product works in the body before using it. The question then becomes: does MK 677 lower testosterone?

The short answer is no. MK 677 does not typically reduce testosterone levels; rather, it increases them in most users. Studies have shown that when taken at higher doses (six-fold greater than recommended), MK 677 can cause a slight decrease in testosterone levels. However, this dose would be considered excessive and rarely achieved with typical use. Additionally, any decrease observed in studies was only temporary and recoverable. Overall, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that taking MK 677 will reduce your testosterone levels long-term.

A more likely outcome of taking MK 677 is an increase in GH (growth hormone) and IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor 1). It’s possible you may experience other benefits as well such as a surge in energy and improved mental clarity. In terms of its effect on testosterone, however, research shows that when taken within the recommended dosage range over a three month period or longer the result may be an increase in total serum testosterone levels of 10-25%.

Benefits of Higher Testosterone Levels
Higher testosterone levels can bring about many beneficial effects for men such as increased sex drive, improved performance during physical activity and better health overall. Testosterone is responsible for stimulating muscle growth as well as improving strength and endurance so increased levels can help stimulate bodybuilding efforts without resorting to steroids which are illegal in many countries.

Side Effects from Excessively High Testosterone Levels
In some cases though higher than normal levels of circulating T-hormone can lead to certain side effects such as:

  • Increased risk for prostate cancer
  • Acne breakouts on face
  • Muscle cramps
  • Lower sperm count

It’s important to remember that these side effects are primarily observed due to excessively high dosages usually found among steroid abusers or those who do not properly monitor their intake of supplements like MK677 which interact directly with hormone production systems in the body. To prevent potential side effects while still enjoying its many documented benefits both amateur athletes and pros should stick within recommended maximum doses or consult their primary doctor beforehand if unsure about their limits during supplementation cycles .
